Source For Sports CCM
Canadian Hockey Skills Challenge
Rules and Regulations

Registration

  1. All competitors must provide accurate information about year of birth and skill level. Source For Sports CCM Canadian Hockey Skills Challenge reserves the right to verify that all information provided is accurate. If competitor knowingly provides false information they will disqualified from the Source For Sports CCM Canadian Hockey Skills Challenge and will forfeit their entrance fee. If a competitor is unable to make their pre-registered time slot, they will be able to transfer that time to another competitor, providing  all details on the new competitor are supplied a minimum of 10 days prior to  the day they are scheduled to compete. Failure to provide 10 days notice will result in disqualification and forfeiture of registration fee. Supply new competitor details to david@four2go.ca.
  2. Competitors may sign up as many times as they like, however, they cannot sign up more then once in an individual time spot. Each new registration requires a separate payment of the entrance fee

Arriving at the Arena

  1. Players must check in for their selected time slot no less than 40 minutes before they are scheduled to go on the ice.
  2. All players must wear FULL EQUIPMENT similar to what they would wear during a regular game (neck guard and mouth guard, where provincial rules mandate)
  3. Players must be dressed and in the dressing room 10 minutes before they are scheduled to go onto the ice for instructions
  4. If competitors do not comply they will be eliminated from the Source For Sports CCM Canadian Hockey Skills Challenge and they will forfeit their entry fee.

On the ice

  1. The Source For Sports CCM Canadian Hockey Skills Staff are in charge of the event and participants must follow all instructions given by staff. 
  2. Any competitors hindering the staff’s ability to run the event are subject to disqualification from the Source For Sports CCM Canadian Hockey Skills Challenge and the forfeiture of their entrance fee.
  3. Any competitor hindering any other competitor’s ability to participate (Physically or verbally) in the events will be disqualified from Source For Sports CCM the Canadian Hockey Skills Challenge and will forfeit their entrance fee.

The 3 Skills

Shooting Accuracy

  • 8 pucks will be positioned 20 feet from the net.
  • The player must stand behind the 20 foot line while shooting.
    • If part of the participants skate crosses the line the shot will not count towards their score
    • The players stick must start behind the line but may cross the line during the shooting motion
  • Players will be judged on how many pucks hit and stay in the mesh pocket targets as well as the time it takes to shoot all 8 pucks, with a maximum time of 20 seconds
    • Any pucks shot after the 20 second mark will not count towards their score
  • Players can hit any target they wish.
    • The same target can be hit multiple times
  • Tiebreaker:
    • If more than one player achieves the highest number of targets hit, the fastest time recorded to hit the targets will determine the winner

Fastest Skater

  • 2 players will compete at the same time
  • Each player will start at opposite sides of the rink
  • The starting line will be the red centre ice line
  • Players must start behind the centre line.  No part of the player’s skate may touch the red line before the start.  The player’s upper body or stick may be over the starting red line
    • Both players will restart if either player records a false start
    • If a player has a false start for a second time they will receive no points for the fastest skater event.
  • Timers will supply a starting cadence: Ready, set, Go, and blow the whistle on go.
  • On the whistle both players will skate in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • The skater’s entire body must go around the cones.  Including stick
    • Minor infraction
      • If a player’s stick does not go around a cone they will be assessed a .5 second penalty for each infraction
      • If a player hits a cone with their body or stick they will be assessed at .5 second penalty
    • Major Infraction
      • If a player’s entire body goes on the inside of a cone they will be disqualified and receive no points for the fastest skater event
  • The time will stop once any part of the player’s body (not including stick) crosses the centre line that they started at.

Hardest Shot

  • Players will take two shots
    • The puck will be placed between the hash marks, 20 feet from the net.
  • Players may take a skating start from anywhere inside the blue line or shoot from a stop position
  • The highest score of the 2 shots will be recorded as the player’s hardest shot
  • Tiebreaker:
    • If more than one player achieves the same score for the hardest recorded shot, the speed of each players second shot will be used to decide a winner

Scoring

Shooting Accuracy

  • Every target hit is worth 12.5 points.  The max score for this event 100
  • Time will also be recorded if a tie break is needed
  • Example: 5 targets hit = 62.5
  • Score = 62.5

Fastest Skater

  • The players score will be 100 minus their recorded time.
  • Example: Player’s time is 14.53.  Their score is 100 -14.53 = 85.47
  • Score = 85.7

Hardest Shot

  • The players score recorded will be the hardest of the two shots
  • The tie breaker will be the player whose second shot is the hardest
  • Example: Player’s shots are 56 and 62 MPH. Score is 62 points
  • Score = 62

Total Score based on example            62.5 + 85.47 + 62 = 209.9

  • The staff at each Source For Sports CCM Canadian Skills Challenge event will have the final say in the case of any discrepancies in scoring
  • All players scores will be verbally announced upon completion of the skill
  • All scores will be posted to the Source For Sports CCM Canadian Skills Challenge web site within 48 hours of the event

Prizing

  • All participants are competing for prizing on a national level against players registered in their respective age and skill levels at all 6 events being held across Canada in the 6 city challenge in Burlington ON, Hamilton, ON, London ON, Simcoe ON, Kelowna BC and Saskatoon SK.
  • Winners will be decided with 48 hours of the close of the final event being held in Hamilton, ON on April 19, 2008.

Overall Skills Champions

The players recording the top three overall skill scores in each age group and skill division (48 total prizes) from all scores entered from all participants in the 2008 Source For Sports CCM 6 City Skills Challenge will win prizes as follows:

  • 1st Place = FREE CCM Guts & Glory / Sean Skinner Skating and Stickhandling School Scholarship – Value $395.00
    • 16 - 1st Place Winners
    • Total Prize Value = $6,320.00
    • The player who records the highest overall skills score (total combined score of 3 skills) in each age group and skill division (16 total winners) will receive a FREE scholarship to the 2008 CCM Guts & Glory / Sean Skinner Skating and Stickhandling School in the market closest to their home.

    • 16 – 3rd place winners
    • Total Prize Value = $2,400.00
    • The player who records the third highest overall skills score (total combined score of 3 skills) in each age group and skill division (16 total winners) will receive FREE CCM Hockey merchandise with a retail value of $150.00.

Individual Skills Champions

The players recording the top scores in each individual skill in each age group and skill division (48 total prizes) from all scores entered from all participants in the 2008 Source For Sports CCM 6 City Skills Challenge will win prizes as follows:

  • The player who records the highest score in each of the 3 skills (Accuracy Shooting, Fastest Skater, Hardest Shot) in each age group and skill division (48 totals prizes) will receive a $50.00 Source For Sports® Gift Card
    • 48 Individual Skills Winners
    • Total Prize Value = $2,400.00

All prizes must be accepted as awarded – no substitutes, prizes cannot be traded for cash
